Yesterday we went to Elijah's field day at school. We watched him shoot baskets, play a catching game, capture the football, hockey, volleyball and tug-a-war. It was fun to see him being aggressive and competitive with sports. No matter how non-competitive the sports are kids seem to develop this tendency on their own.

Yesterday the kids had to clean up. They were pretty worn out from the day so I offered them a deal. They could have a break now and clean up later but they needed to do a good job. The consequence for not cleaning up quickly enough was peanut butter sandwiches for dinner and early bedtime. Maxwell apparently thought the peanut butter sandwich was the reward for cleaning up. When they were all done, Elijah and Xander came in to get their bowls of teriyaki meatballs with rice. Maxwell runs in and exclaims, "It's all cleaned up Mom! Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner!" When dealing with three kids at once I often forget that three-year-olds hear and understand phrasing differently than seven year olds. After that excitement from Maxwell I couldn't very well give him meatballs although I did offer. He got disappointed and said, "No, peanut butter and jelly."

Xander has told me, "Mom, you need to start watching commercials to find out what you need." Often Elijah and Xander will inform me of the different gadgets I need based upon what they have seen. Xander and I were playing Othello the other night while Jared was watching the game (D-backs). A Fulton home commercial came on. Xander said, "Wait. I love this one!" and turns around to watch the commercial, shaking his head to the rhythm, and grinning from ear to ear. He completely tuned Jared and I out during the commercial.
