My Mom requested my Book Club list . . .

so I thought it wouldn't hurt to share with everyone. Plus it gives me a place to keep track of the schedule that I most likely will not lose. If anyone has book suggestions please leave the title and author in comments, maybe even a why you like it. My main thing is I like my fiction books to be PG or cleaner and my non-fiction can be PG-13 or cleaner as long as it is not gratuitous. I had taken up reading Young Adult books as I was scared to go in the Adult section of the library after some shocking reading experiences. I just joined the book club and am reading everything even if it is not my style or taste. It is great to broaden my horizons and also to get to know other people better based on their personal choices for reading.

June- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
August- These Is My Words by Nancy E. Turner - A definite must read! It does end sad and there will be tears throughout but it is a fairly realistic portrayal of what life was like for Southwestern settlers. Some of the older ladies in the group are Phoenix natives and were able to relate and share stories of what they did to survive in the summers before air conditioning.
September- March by Geraldine Brook - I felt it was a mediocre book with fleeting inspiring moments. Deals with civil war, racism, and slavery.
October- Riding the Bus With My Sister- I am almost finished with this book and feel it is inspiring and educational. A true story based on the experience of having a sister with mild mental retardation and a dysfunctional family that I think most people can relate to. Also includes many life lessons relevant to everyone.
November- Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber
January- Midnight at the Dragon Cafe by Judy Fong Bates
February- Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell- I haven't read it yet but a wildly popular Masterpiece Theatre was based on this novel.
March- Tortilla Curtain by T. Coraghessan Boyle
April- The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd

As we continue with our gatherings some of these books may change. The leader of the group tries to check out the books beforehand to make sure they aren't too racy.

Cranford

Hey-I loved this masterpiece theater!!! Maybe I'll read it...if only I could find awake time to do it....

Great Book I'm reading now!

I'm currently in the midst of reading "The Shack" by William P. Young. It's an amazing story of a broken father's experience of God. I've really enjoyed it, but be forewarned that it's a tear jerker. Love ya, Erin

Thanks Sara - I can't wait

Thanks Sara - I can't wait to begin "This is my Words". I am currently reading Anatomy of Peace by the Arbinger Institute. Excellent! Should be finished Monday depending on reading time. Love to you.
