First Day of Summer Vacation

We went to ILPs today after Maxwell's swim lessons. Elijah did awesome on the standardized testing per usual. They both got excellent grades A's with only 1 B between them. Elijah would have had all A's except he didn't want to do one assignment properly and he got a super low grade on it which messed up the whole thing. It was a high B though. It would have been a B+ if there were such a thing.

Xander (and Elijah too) has two teachers and one teacher's assistant full time in the classroom. One is moving down to Kindergarten and I would so love if she is Maxwell's teacher. She is the most feminine, sweet young teacher and Kindergarten will be a great fit. This will leave Xander with a new teacher and because his other teacher is having a baby in August he will also have a substitute teacher for most of the first quarter. He will have the same TA though so that is good. Mrs. Davis told us that she is thinking of moving Xander up to 4th grade math next year or moving him between 3rd and 4th grade math as needed. She thinks he needs more of a challenge. She said he always finishes his independent work quickly and she notices him listening in on the other small groups and thinking about what they are learning. I will buy him a workbook to practice and maybe help him bump up a level. This information was surprising to me though since math (although he is good at it) has always seemed more challenging for him than the other subjects.

Elijah scored in the 99% for math in the national tests, not surprising at all. He scored in the 97% for reading and the 88% for language. In the state testing he exceeded his school's average in reading, writing, and math. He more than met the state standards for writing and he exceeded the state standards in reading and math. Discrete math, whatever that is, is the only area he could work on (at grade level) but he doesn't really need to work on that. He does need to work on focusing and paying attention to his teachers. He also needs to improve his writing. I really enjoy reading his writing. He has a great voice. He just wants to write on his own terms completely and hates being told when, how much, and what to write.

We had to go to some stores afterwards and oh the complaints I got. I am so grateful that I will not have to take them shopping very often this summer. Xander expressed that he didn't want to spend his whole summer going grocery shopping. Seriously. We also went by Xander's optometrist office to get his records since we have to transfer him to the new office. I will be taking him there in July.

I'll bet a few weeks of NO

I'll bet a few weeks of NO grocery shopping would enlighten Xander. What a riot! I am so grateful the kids have strong minds and are using them. This is a true blessing. I love you Sara.
