Round 2

This weekend was round two of our home buying adventure. For round two, we focused in on the city of Maricopa.

Maricopa is directly south of the heart of Phoenix. To get to Maricopa, you must drive to the very southeastern corner of Phoenix. Then you must drive even further south to the very outskirts of the metropolitan. Then, you must exit the freeway onto a 16 mile, four-lane highway that cuts southwest through the Gila River Indian Reservation. You go from the concrete jungles of Phoenix, through 16 miles of empty desert, and arrive to an all-american rural town turned suburb.

Many people are turned of by the 16 miles through Indian land. This highway is the only convenient way to get to Phoenix. The speed limit is 65, and during normal traffic conditions, the commute is a breeze. However, if a wreck occurs on that highway, it will really spoil your day's agenda.

Maricopa was a booming town hit hard by the recession. During the worst part of the recession, it made national news as an epitomized busted real estate bubble. Sara and I drove down a year ago and were amazed at all the for sale signs. Even now, if you're in the market for a new home, pickings are good.

The recession and the commute are the two major reasons why homes in Maricopa are so affordable. Lucky for us, when we moved to Arizona, we setup shop in southeast Phoenix. Most of our Arizona roots are 20-25 miles from Maricopa. The biggest drawback of moving 20-25 miles further southwest: the extra 20-25 miles between us and our families in Gilbert.

Homes in Maricopa are ginormous (for us) but still within our price range.

We narrowed it down to three homes:
Small, Medium, Large

We are making an offer on the medium house tomorrow!!

Happy for you!

That will be so fun for you to get a house. I hope you get that "medium" one. It looks pretty large and beautiful to me! Love to all of you.

Maricopa home

That is really exciting. It is a huge home for a really great price. Do you like this one better than the other one you put an offer on?? If you get it, will the boys go to school there or where they are now?? Good luck. Love you

Dad, I definitely like this

Dad, I definitely like this house better; I think Sara does too. On the last house, we made a very conservative offer. On this house, we were a little more aggressive.

The boys would remain at the same school.
