+1 Bike Rider

This weekend, we taught Maxwell how to ride his bike without training wheels. We've developed this awesome teaching method that I like to call the airhead parent method. Basically, we just wait until it dawns upon us that the kid should no longer need training wheels and then we take them off.

Yesterday, the ward had a bike rally primary activity where they all rode their bikes around the church parking lot. Sara said, "We, as in you, should really teach Maxwell how to ride his bike without training wheels." I agreed; I just hadn't even thought about it before then.

So today, I took off Maxwell's training wheels, gave him a push, and off he went. By the end of the day, Maxwell was starting all by himself, cruising up and down the street, making U-turns, and skidding to a stop just for fun.

This method of teaching has proven so successful that I just might carry it over to driving too. I'm sure they won't mind waiting until they are 20 to learn how to drive.
