I found the clean-out! Yay for me!

Jared and I have redecided that we probably want to drain our pool this year. This week will be cool enough and water rates go to summer highs starting in May. Jared jokingly told me that I should get a rake out and look under the landscaping around the house to find the clean-out that eluded us the first several times we searched for it. He started out with shovel but I reminded him we didn't own a big shovel yet. This morning I got out there again- this time with a hand-trowel and gloves to see what I could see. I also used the Internet, but the clues found there weren't applicable. Things like figuring out where your bathroom and kitchen drains line up to the outside of the house and start there, or finding an S on the public cement outside your house and walking straight to the house from there. There was no S, and none of our internal main drains line up. I still tried and invested some time digging around. Jared told me he was just joking about me finding it (I took him literally this morning.) and said maybe we could ask the neighbor's if they knew where their's was. I decided to start looking on the outside (from the sidewalk of course) of the neighbors' houses to see if I could locate their clean-outs from there. I wasn't going to walk on to anybody's property. I am still sure though that if anyone saw me staring intently at the ground around their house they would think I was weird. Low and behold I found one of our neighbor's clean-outs and decided to look in the approximate location on our house and there it was. I am pretty proud of myself if you can't tell.

A clean-out, for those that don't know, is an external drain into the sewer system. It is important to know where yours are in case you ever have a sewer back-up or clog in between the main/public line and your house. Also in lots of states, if you own a pool, you are required to drain into your property clean-out and not the street or storm drains because of pollution.

Jared thinks it is hilarious how happy I get when I figure out diy stuff. It just isn't in my natural aptitude, I am more of book learner, written test taker so this stuff that challenges me (even though I know for most people it is simple) makes me feel good about things. It may not seem like much of an accomplishment but to me it is huge!

I love learning about you!
