Summer Reading Programs

Every year we look forward to the public library's summer reading program where the final prize is a baseball ticket. We love to go see the D-Backs in action and this just makes one of our trips more affordable. Elijah was only 100 pages away from finishing his sheet. He has to have read at least 1500 pages to finish. This began on June 1st. Elijah just lost his right to read anything other than scriptures until further notice from Jared.

I expect Maxwell and Xander to either read 50 pages or 20 minutes for each of their 30 spaces.

Our Primary is also doing a summer reading program. For each week, as a family, we are to read a specific set of scripture verses. Last night's theme was that prophets prophesied Jesus would come and then he did. Elijah and Xander both thought it was awesome. Elijah wished we could do this every night. We told him we could, we just needed him to remind us.

Sometimes we have been good at regular family scripture study but for 2009 and 2010 thus far not so much. Often it is our kids reminding Jared and I that we need to read our scriptures, do family home evening, and it used to be family prayer, but now Jared and I are trained in that area. Jared even has us doing dinner prayers and he started that on his own without the boys pushing.

We like to keep our kids begging for religion.
