Holy Blog Entry Batman!

Jared had his dermatologist appointment that I scheduled for him 6 weeks ago on Thursday. I wish he would blog about the actual appointment because he had me laughing about it. 2 women scanning almost his entire body, measuring and writing descriptions of his every mole. Yes, I picked a female dermatologist for my husband. She is a highly rated, skin cancer specialist.

Basically several months ago Jared and I noticed these weird, fleshy growths on his face. There were always 2-3 of them with one at a time scabbing over and healing to regular skin. I was trying to figure out what it was and what to do about it when God guided my hand. I don't mean to sound trite but I am absolutely serious about that. I don't usually get to read the articles in magazines when I take the boys to the library. I usually spend the time helping one boy at a time gather all the books they want and then they want out of there ASAP. Because of the reading logs they all wanted to spend some time reading at the library to earn more prizes before we left. Somehow I ended up reading an article about skin cancer that included descriptions and pictures. One of the pictures of basal cell carcinoma looked exactly like what was on Jared's face and the description also fit exactly.

I had my answer so I immediately researched doctors and scheduled an appointment for Jared. When he tried to protest, I said none of that and told him there was no acceptable reason for him to miss the appointment besides death. Sometimes I am a bit bossy. (Okay most times, but I continue to believe that if women weren't so bossy the earth would discontinue spinning and Jared's face would rot from skin cancer.)

When the nurse saw the growth, she said, "Woah." So my concern was within reason.

Now you may be wondering why Jared and I are treating this so lightly. Basal cell carcinoma is the most minor of the skin cancers. It is slow to spread, it rarely metastasizes, and with in 2 minutes they believe they had it all cut out of his face. We should get the biopsy results next week. They will verify that the external tissue cut out is cancer free and the cancer type. Probably most exciting for Jared since he loves going to doctors so much is that he has to return every 6 months for the visual scan and measurements for awhile and then he goes down to once a year.

Hopefully he will actually start wearing sun block because of this. My bossiness is out of love.

I can just picture this

I can just picture this story. Gary had the same experience with a woman doctor. He told the story to his male friends and they reacted the same way. What is it with you men? Women have male Doctors deliver their babies. I'm glad you made Jared go to the Dr. to get it taken care of. Now he can sweat it for his next appointment! Love to all of you.
